Cold Sores

Happened on 22 November 2007  | ( 0 ) Comments

Cold sores are caused by the herpes simplex virus that lies dormant in cells until the person's system is stressed. An attack can be caused by a low immune system, being under stress, eating arginine-rich foods such as wheat, nuts and chocolate, and exposure to the sun.

Natural remedies for cold sores generally focus on preventing or lowering the frequency of attacks and, the results can be very good indeed if taken over a few months during cold sore season (time of year may vary from person to person, but generally it is an indication that the immune system is lower at that particular time of year).

These natural remedies for herpes simplex can also be very helpful in cases of genital herpes - the treatment is exactly the same.

Dandelion and Purslane Combination is a liquid Chinese herbal combination designed for adults and children to help strengthen their immunity against viral infections. Dr. Wenwei Xie is a traditional Chinese medical doctor from Beijing, who used a highly effective herbal combination that was helpful for dealing with the herpes simplex virus. Upon further investigation, his formula was shown to be effective in dealing with a cross range of viruses and when tested in the laboratory, was found to reduce viral counts by more than 50% with no toxicity. Even after 2 years of extensive research, the active ingredients couldn't be isolated in order for them to design a drug that would do the same job. Nature's Sunshine, after conducting their own research wnet on to manufacture this unique herbal formula. Try Dandelion and Purslane on its own, or with a complementary product called Immune Formula , which is useful as a preventative treatment and used to boost your immune system.

Are You Exhausted All The Time?

Happened on 22 November 2007  | ( 0 ) Comments

There are certain herbs that have the reputation of being "master healers" and which have the property of restoring correct functioning of the body globally, thus increasing health and vitality whatever the original problem. They can be used safely in many diverse conditions either as sole treatment or to support other therapeutic measures.

Since the constituent chemicals of herbs normally have fairly specific effects, the mechanism of action of master healing herbs, with their more general, holistic effects, is conjectural. However, we have noted that master healing herbs have one property in common: they all raise "vital force", that mysterious life force that animates all living creatures. This force or subtle energy is recognised by all of the great cultures, with slight differences of interpretation, and has been referred to as pneuma by the ancient Greeks, vata by the Ayurvedic system (also called prana in Sanskrit) and Qi (chi) by the Chinese. In the Chinese model, chi is a unique and invisible energy that flows from the environment into the body through acupuncture points and thence via the meridian system to the organs to provide its life-giving support.

Thus vital force is believed to organize the body into a living, coherent, operating whole and indeed actually to give rise to the physical manifestation of the body. It is also a healing force, maintaining the body's health and vigour. Additionally those with a high level of vital force ("strong chi") have joie de vivre and a likeable, powerful, and magnetic personality (charisma).

Whether the multiple beneficial effects of master healing herbs give rise to an elevated vital force or whether by elevating vital force they give rise to multiple beneficial effects is unclear. However, it is certainly tempting to suggest that it is the latter that is predominantly the case since the majority of herbs used medicinally have valuable healing ability but do not substantially raise diminshed vital force.

Quite how herbs can increase vital force is a matter for debate. In Chinese medicine, chi tonics are considered to affect primarily the organs that are responsible for the entrapment and assimilation of chi energy, and these are regarded as being the lungs, the heart, spleen, stomach, kidneys and the adrenal glands, particularly the spleen and lungs. (Chi is taken into the lungs and enters the bloodstream along with oxygen, while the splenic chakra is an additional portal of entry for Chi, where it is then processed and stored before being distributed throughout the body). Since nutrients can also raise vital force, it may be relevant that some master healing herbs such as wheatgrass are densely nutritive. However, energetic mechanisms may be more important than biochemical mechanisms, and master healing herbs are often revered by the natives of their place of origin and regarded as sacred panaceas. Perhaps they simply carry more chi than other plants, which is then conferred to the consumer on ingestion.

In order to preserve chi, the quality of the herbs is paramount. That's why we use Nature's Sunshine products extensively in our clinic. We can always feel confident that each batch of herbs has be rigourously tested for quality and contaminants. Any batch that doesn't come up to scratch is rejected - even at the cost of the product being temporarily out of supply.

Both Chinese Mineral Chi (a mixture of health - giving herbs and colloidal minerals), and Synerprotein drink, either in Original flavour or Chocolate contains high quality protein and health - giving vegetables and herbs (great for people who don't eat enough vegetables)

Poor Immunity to Colds and 'Flu

Happened on 22 November 2007  | ( 0 ) Comments

Frequent colds and flu are a sign of a low immune system that can be caused by poor eating habits, particularly high levels of sugar and/or cow's milk, insufficient sleep and rest, 'burning the candle at both ends', periods of stress and trauma, too much exercise or even not enough exercise.

Working in a poor environment where the ambient air is stale or recycled might also be a contributing factor. However if the immune system is strong, this would not be a causative effect on its own.

The suggested solutions, taken over a period of a few months, can be very helpful. With our patients in clinic, we will addresss key underlying health problems and then suggest a small regime to help to keep the immune system strong. Taking one or more of the suggested solutions can be very successful if taken over the winter period, or whenever patients are exposed to colds and flu as a preventative.

Other measures that should be taken are to:
Eliminate sugar, sucrose, dextrose from the diet and substitute with items sweetened with apple juice, grape juice, agave, fruit sugar (Fruisiana).

Avoid other refined carbohydrates such as white flour products and instead, use wholemeal products.

Reduce cow's dairy products to a minimum

Ensure that at least 5 portions of fruit and vegetables are eaten daily

Herbs that are known to help support the immune system are included in these two formulas Astragalus & Ganoderma combination or Immune Formula

Defence Maintenance is also a good all round remedy for immune support
Zambroza is a great all round tonic and Chinese Mineral Chi Tonic is a Chinese herbal combination that supports the acupuncture meridian system and thus promote vitality.

Frequent Urination at Night

Happened on 22 November 2007  | ( 0 ) Comments

If this occurs only at night, it may be due to stress and adrenal exhaustion.

The adrenal glands produce hormones that are involved in regulating fluid levels in the body. If you are under stress, the adrenal hormone balance at night is disrupted which means that your kidneys release extra fluid during the night and the bladder then fills more frequently.

Try taking these three remedies that help support the adrenals for 2 - 3 months.

Biota & Schizandra combination
Master Gland Formula and Balanced B Complex

Wake up with a Headache

Happened on 22 November 2007  | ( 0 ) Comments

. This can be due to depleted or underactive adrenal glands. These are the glands that sit on the top of your kidneys and secrete powerful hormones that keep us going. When under stress for long periods of time, the adrenals become depleted. Other associated symptoms can be fatigue, allergies hormonal disturbances such as those experienced by some women in the perimenopause or menopause. Ask someone to shine a torch light into your eye. If the pupil dilates (gets bigger) in response to the light either immediately or after 20-30 seconds, or fluctuates between constricition and dilation (the puplis should constrict in response to light), you are likely to be adrenally exhausted.

2. You may be suffering from a drop in blood sugar. See article Hypoglycaemia - Low Blood Sugar

3. Also, people who suffer from sleep disturbances (sleep apnoea) can get morning headaches. This is due to to tissue obstructing the airways. If you wake up frequenty, this could be a problem. Visit your GP who may recommend a device fitted into the mouth at night to keep the airways open www.therasnore.co.uk
.

4. Check that your pillow is right for you. Neck problems can cause you to wake up with a headache. Visit a chiropracter or osteopath to get your neck checked out. For a list of osteopaths visit www.localosteopath.co.uk

For easing symptoms of headache, we find Tei Fu Essential Oil very good for relieving headaches. Dab a little on your temples for quick relief.

Indigestion - Heavy Bloated Feeling in the Stomach

Happened on 22 November 2007  | ( 0 ) Comments

If you also experience a chronic bloated feeling, you have excessive flatulence and a heavy feeling in the stomach, you may have an under acid stomach. Low stomach acid allows food to sit too long in the stomach before it passess into the small intestine. Food then ferments in the stomach causing heaviness and bloating.

Take Food Enzymes or if you feel nausea or 'flu like sympoms, a knotted feeling in the stomach, severe wind or bloating, if you are over 50 and suffering these symptoms, it is likely that you are lacking in hydrochloric acid in your stomach. This can give feelings of being too acid, but because the food is sitting too long in the stomach, it can feel acid.

Menopausal Symptoms

Happened on 22 November 2007  | ( 0 ) Comments

The adrenals are responsible for producing 15% of a female's oestrogen, so in a menopausal situation, it is essential to support the adrenals. This is particularly so if the onset of your sympoms came suddenly. It is often accompanied by sudden low back pain. It is a good idea to support the adrenal glands if possible BEFORE the menopause begins, certainly in the late 30's early 40's. Use search library under 'conditions' for more information about adrenal exhaustion.

Major Menopausal Symptoms
Hot flashes: This is a dilation of the peripheral blood vessels (near the skin) which leads to hotness and accompanying redness. Hot flushes can be accompanied by increased heart rate, dizziness and fatigue.

Headaches: These can accompany hot flushes because the blood vessels of the head and neck are not as stable.

Dry vagina: Atrophic vaginitis can occur because after the menopause, in some instances the vaginal lining can become thin and dry due to lack of oestrogen. The symptoms may be painful intercourse, vaginal itching or burning and a susceptibility to becoming infected. Avoid substances that might dry the out the mucous membranes such as antihistamines, diuretic drugs, alcohol and caffeine. It is important to maintain hydrated tissue by dringking at least 6 glasses of water daily. Regular intercourse is actually beneficial as it increases the blood flow to the tissues and helps to improve tone and lubrication. It's important, though to keep the vaginal area lubricated if necessary with oil or K-Y jelly.

Bladder Infections: It seems that there can occur in some women a breadown of the natural defense mechanisms in the urinary tract that protect agains bacteria. Again, sufficient water intake is important and there are several herbal medicines that can be used. Visit the section on Cystitis in the Conditions section in the Search Library.

Forgetfulness and lack of concentration: The brain is highly dependent on oxygen and nutrients. As a person gets older the arteries can harden in some of the blood vessels that supply oxygen to the brain. Therefore it is important to think about dietary measures and exercise to help improve oxygenation.

Dealing with menopausal symptoms in our clinic is usually a very straight forward procedure and succes is commonplace.

Listed below are some of the health supplemements that we use in clinic to help to resolve menopausal issues very successfully.

Hot Flushes may be helped by taking Black Cohosh and Dong Quai Formula

For a smooth transition from the perimenopause to the menopause try taking

Black Cohosh and Licorice Combination
Flax Seed Oil Capsules
Nutri Calm
Skeletal Strength
Wild Yam with Chaste Tree

These five products may be purchased individually, or as a 30 day promotional pack Natural Woman Pack that saves you over 10.50

Nausea - Feeling Sick

Happened on 22 November 2007  | ( 0 ) Comments

Obviously, the cause of the nausea is best addressed. However for relief of symptoms, ginger is very effective.

You can take some fresh ginger root that you can buy from the supermarkets, peel and chop about 1" and pour hot water onto it. Leave for 5 - 10 minutes and drink. It not only is a refreshing drink, but it's great for settling an upset stomach. It's also great to take if you're pregnant and suffering from morning sickness.

If nausea is due to a 'stomach bug', taking ginger can relieve symptoms within 4 hours. Also try taking Liquid Chlorophyll, a very powerful but gentle 'disinfectant' for the digestive system. This can help destroy the organisms responsible for the attack. It also helps liver function.

Liquid Chlorophyll is also very good for the effects of too much alcohol. The best way to prevent a hangover is to drink Liquid Chlorophyll after having alcohol, however you can take it the following morning to help the after effects!

Sickness and Diarrhoea

Happened on 22 November 2007  | ( 0 ) Comments

It's almost inevitable that sickness and diarrhoea hits the family sometime during the year.

The best cure is to not eat and drink plenty of water to ensure that you don't get dehydrated.

There are obviously different reasons why an attack can occur and if the symptoms continue for more than 24 hours do consult your doctor or NHS direct. The most usual reasons are enteric bacteria or viruses as in gastroenteritis or food poisoning.

It isn't wise to suppress diarrhoea by taking a pharmaceutical formula made for that purpose. The body is trying to rid itself of a pathogen or toxin and sickness and diarrhoea is its natural way of doing that.

In our clinic we suggest to our clients that they keep in

Liquid Chlorophyll that has a subtle taste of spearmint, making it a refreshing drink. chlorophyll, the substance that makes plants green, promotes a healthy digestive system, and often the sickness and diarrhoea clear up much quicker than it would normally if taken soon after the attack starts.

Other remedies that can be used in this crisis are:

Activated Charcoal
for disinfecting the bowel and absorbing toxic material; Agatha Thrash, MB from the Pines Institute in Alabama recommends a water and charcoal cocktail: Put two to three tablespoons of activated charcoal powder in the bottom of a large glass and add a small amount of water (bottled may be best if you're travelling). Stir it slowly and then add more water to fill the glass. Drink through a straw. It doesn't taste that nice, but it's cheap and effective. Taking it in capsule form (at least 6 at a time) with plenty of water is another option.

Silver Shield
, a great anti-bacterial and antiviral remedy that should be in everyone's cupboard (also useful for preventing and treating infections in external cuts and wounds)

Ginger is another great remedy as it's refreshing - just what you need when you're being sick. Try shaving a few pieces of fresh ginger into a mug and pouring boiling water over it. Let it steep for ten minutes and then allow it to cool before drinking.

If the attack continues to upset the digestive system, consider taking some good bacteria in the form of probiotics such as Bifidophilus to help push the 'bad guys" out.

Using these measures may help prevent the problem of sickness and diarrhoea escalating and ensure a swift recovery from this debilitating health problem.

If the sickness and diarrhoea persists it is important to seek medical help.

Snoring

Happened on 22 November 2007  | ( 0 ) Comments

People who regularly snore loudly have been shown to be at greater risk for heart disease. This is thought to be due to the lack of oxygen that difficulty breathing causes. Consider sleep apnoea (stopping breathing, which disturbes sleep) which if left untreated can cause serious problems.

Silent Nite is a herbal combination remedy that helps to open the nasal passages and reduce snoring in many people. This is well worth a try before resorting to other measures.
