The adrenals are responsible for producing 15% of a female's oestrogen, so in a menopausal situation, it is essential to support the adrenals. This is particularly so if the onset of your sympoms came suddenly. It is often accompanied by sudden low back pain. It is a good idea to support the adrenal glands if possible BEFORE the menopause begins, certainly in the late 30's early 40's. Major Menopausal Symptoms
Hot flashes: This is a dilation of the peripheral blood vessels (near the skin) which leads to hotness and accompanying redness. Hot flushes can be accompanied by increased heart rate, dizziness and fatigue.
Headaches: These can accompany hot flushes because the blood vessels of the head and neck are not as stable.
Dry vagina: Atrophic vaginitis can occur because after the menopause, in some instances the vaginal lining can become thin and dry due to lack of oestrogen. The symptoms may be painful intercourse, vaginal itching or burning and a susceptibility to becoming infected. Avoid substances that might dry the out the mucous membranes such as antihistamines, diuretic drugs, alcohol and caffeine. It is important to maintain hydrated tissue by dringking at least 6 glasses of water daily. Regular intercourse is actually beneficial as it increases the blood flow to the tissues and helps to improve tone and lubrication. It's important, though to keep the vaginal area lubricated if necessary with oil or K-Y jelly.
Bladder Infections: It seems that there can occur in some women a breadown of the natural defense mechanisms in the urinary tract that protect agains bacteria. Forgetfulness and lack of concentration: The brain is highly dependent on oxygen and nutrients. As a person gets older the arteries can harden in some of the blood vessels that supply oxygen to the brain. Therefore it is important to think about dietary measures and exercise to help improve oxygenation.
