Chlamydia - a Cause of InfertilityHappened on 11 April 2004 | ( 0 ) Comments
CHLAMYDIA, THE SILENT GENITAL INFECTION
There are 50 million known cases of genital chlamydia reported worldwide. It is the most common sexually transmitted disease in the western world. The infection occurs in the urethra in men (the canal in the penis through which urine and semen is evacuated) and the cervix (the neck of the womb) in women. It's incubation period is between 7 to 28 days. There are two large groups of chlamydia species. C. psittaci, which infects birds and wild animals and can affect the lungs of anyone contracting it by inhaling it, and C. trachomatis which is linked mainly to human disease. Chlamydia trachomatis is subdivided into strains that affect the genital area. These are known in the medical profession as D-K, lyphogranuloma venerium (LGV) and trachoma linked to some serotypes. Some of these genital affecting types can affect the newly born of affected mothers and, although it doesn't cause blindness, it can cause permanent changes in the conjunciva or the cornea of the eye.
HOW DO I KNOW IF I AM INFECTED?
Diagnosis isn't easy as a lot of people don't have any symptoms at all! If you suspect you have the problem, then it is very important to seek medical advice since leaving it can cause infertility due to fallopian tube damage (the tube that carries the egg from the ovaries to the uterus). This can lead also the pelvic inflammatory disease and result in permanent damage.
Only 50% of those infected have definite symptoms. The other 50% have only symptoms that could almost go unnoticed!
In men it chlamydia infection is usually without symptoms although some people might have urethritis - inflammation of the urethra that causes pain on urinating. There are other reasons why urethritis may occur, so this should be checked out by a medical doctor. If the symptoms are present, it is usually about 1-3 weeks after being exposed to chlamydia trachomatis. Sexual partners should be identified and treated.
In women, there may be urinary frequency and abdominal pain, a thick vaginal discharge might be more of an indicator that a thin discharge, and a yellowish/greenish discharge is more suspicious than a clear discharge. Some women who have chlamydia may get a sore vaginal area which is not candida/ thrush. Some women will become infertile without any previous symptoms at all.
WILL IT CLEAR UP?
With medical intervention, it will usually clear. However, an attach can reoccur.
WHAT CAN I DO NATURALLY TO SUPPORT MY BODY DURING AND AFTER TREATMENT?
Minimise any obstacles that prevent the body healing properly
Do not have sex if infected and ensure that any partners have been checked and/or treated to prevent reinfection
Avoid things in your lifestyle that affect your immune system by avoiding foods containing sugar, smoking, a high fat diet, and take natural remedies to support your immune system and help to resolve any acute infections. You may be told to take antibiotics. It is highly important for you to take care of your health at this time to prevent you from circling into infection-antibiotics-low immune system-infection.
Take natural 'antibiotics/antiviral' remedies
WHAT TO TAKE EVERY DAY - FOR AT LEAST ONE YEAR.
Nature's Sunshine Trigger Immune is a great remedy for normalising the action of the immune system so that the body's natural resources will kill the chlamydia invaders. Take as directed.
Golden Seal is excellent as a natural antimicrobial remedy. Take 2 - 3 grams of the root daily.
Initially, take Nature's Sunshine Immune Formula as it's really important to boost the immune system.
Take 1 gram of Vitamin C three times daily to aid liver function, the immune system and reduce inflammation
400ius of vitamin E twice daily can help to destroy the clamydia parasite.
Beta Carotene, taken as directed as a strong antioxidant that amongst many other things, reduces inflammation. Other recommended super-antioxidants are found in Zambroza
Zinc twice daily for the immune system and to help heal tissue. Take a good B vitamin along side this.
