Astragalus and Siberian ginseng are two adaptogens that have proven particularly useful following chemotherapy. Astragalus strengthens the immune system, which is weakened by chemotherapy, and Siberian ginseng can help prevent the fatigue brought on by radiation or chemotherapy, as well as working well with astragalus to protect the immune system.
Ligustrum is also included in this formula since it is often given alongside Astragalus. Other adaptogens that are included and which are believed to offset the detrimental effects of chemotherapy are maitake and schizandra.
Beta - glucan from maitake is believed to be one of the best remedies to help prevent side effects from conventional cancer treatment. It can help banish nausea, sharpen appetite and boost enegy, while strengthening the immune systems white blood cells. Green tea is included beacause people on chemotherapy report that they feel much better when taking this herb. All of the above herbs can be found in the remedy called King of the Mushrooms Plus
Recently L-carnitine has been shown to produce a significant reduction in fatigue in subjects with advanced cancer who were undergoing chemotherapy. The subjects` appetites increased as did their lean muscle mass, and overall quality of life improved greatly.
