Scleroderma - Including Systemic Sclerosisposted on 18 November 2007 | posted in Health TipsCentella Asciatica, otherwise known as gotu kola, has been tested in several trials as a treatment for scleroderma, an autoimmune disease that affects collagen production. Symptoms include hardening of the skin / tissues and arthralgia (pain in one or more joints). In a study of 13 female patients with scleroderma that were given gotu kola in low doses, 3 out of the 13 had a very successful outcome, 8 out of the 13 were successful and was only unsuccessful in 2 out of the 13. The participants reported decreased skin hardening and finger mobility and reduced joint pain. It has been more than 20 years since this study has been done and given the positive results at an extremely low dose, it is unfortunate that more research hasn't been done since. We recommend that a dose of 2-4 grams of gotu kola per day would bring about the desired results and is well worth trying in the light of this research. Share this blog entry:
